Social Media Builds Buzz for Your Events

Planning any business building events? Events are more popular than ever to bring traffic to your store, business or web site. But how do you spread the word and announce your events for maximum impact?

We can learn a lesson from the stars on Donald Trump’s TV show “Apprentice”. Typical episodes involve celebrities planning a fundraiser, calling their fabulously wealthy friends, and asking them to attend an event and make a donation. Yes, I understand that when you want someone to donate $10,000, the personal call is a nice touch.

The episode from October 19, 2009, filmed in New York City features Cyndi Lauper and Sharon Osborne as part of the women’s team serving up burgers at a Manhattan diner. It’s a charity fund raiser and the goal is to bring in donors. How did people know what they were doing?

First, Cyndi and Sharon made a morning visit to Howard Stern. Even for celebrities with access to the “king of all media” getting the word out can be hit or miss. The event wasn’t picked up or tweeted at Twitter.com/CyndiLauperNews. It did make the  local news

blogs… almost in real time.
